Please join us for the opening reception of Crystal Desai's solo exhibition "Safe Inside My Mouth".
Safe Inside My Mouth encourages a playful exploration of the intersection of truth and myth. The impulse to reconcile broken narratives incites an examination of the recent and distant past. As we unearth fragments and half-truths, a story of ourselves emerges but is unfinished. The empty spaces are filled intuitively, with answers gleaned through introspection. These mythologies we construct for ourselves are malleable, and we reshape them as needed. In the absence of pre-existing histories, we maintain the strength to dream up an entirely new story, using only the raw material we contain within ourselves. When we allow ourselves to feel rooted in a self-constructed sense of spirituality, the unsettling ambiguity of truth is mended through the beauty of mystery.
