Interested in designing a new instrument but don’t know where to begin? Want to know the process that goes into building a light controlled instrument like this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jIlLHfSEfs)? Want to try building a prototype of this?

It’s not as hard as you think!

Taught by Takumi Ogata, this workshop will cover topics that will help you get started on becoming an instrument designer & builder!

The latter part of the workshop will consist of a hands-on session. Each of us will build a prototype of a light-controlled instrument to put some of the concepts covered in the talk to use (and yes, you can go home with the prototype!).

We’ll go over topics such as...
+ Thought process of coming up with a new idea
+ Software (CAD, Max/MSP, Arduino IDE)
+ Hardware (basic circuits and Arduino)
+ Online resources for learning more about instrument designing
+ Rapid Prototyping
+ Synthesis basics
+ Mapping sensor data to musical parameters
+ and more!
