Abigail Popwell is the Founder and Musical Director of the Metro Atlanta Philharmonic. MAPs is a community organized orchestra that is acting as a stepping stone for many aspiring musicians from local colleges that need a place to hone their chops while applying to Masters programs. They will be performing "Capriccio Espagnol" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, "Die Moldau" by Bedřich Smetana, "Barber de Seville Overture" by Gioachino Rossini, and "Pictures of an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky on Friday, May 18th at Jean Childs Young Middle School. The event starts at 8 pm, it's free and open to the public.

Popwell told Plasma, ”A lot of musicians after college, whether they are performance or education, end up becoming teachers… and the issue that comes up is that they are teaching and not playing as much.” Check out the full interview with Abigail Popwell on this special segment of our podcast State of the Matter.
